Actually, Jang Geum's adopted father is the one who told her that pollens enhanced the taste of the wine that he wanted to give to Jang Geum as his present for saving him from the possible death penalty.

Ten Japanese visited Korea to participate in an oriental medicine health tour for foreigners offered by the Kyung Hee Medical Center. The Japanese are said to be encouraged to learn oriental medicine after watching the TV-Show Dae Jang Geum or also known as the Jewel in the Palace.

The Japanese tourists, ranging from those in their 30s to those in their 60s are all fans of the Korean drama “Dae Jang Geum.” They talked about “Jang Geum” all the time over the course of the program.

Kazko Watarino (61, female) said, “I joined this program because I became interested in herbal medicine after watching what Jang Geum did with herbs in the drama. I was surprised to see how clean and large oriental medicine hospitals in Korea were, compared to those in Japan.”

The Kyung Hee Medical Center set up a medical office for foreigners after Dae Jang Geum started airing on a satellite TV channel in Japan in March this year. The medical program offered by the medical center has drawn as many as 340 foreigners in only 8 months. The medical center provides the program two or three times a month with foreigners on group “Dae Jang Geum tours” in partnership with a travel agency.

Jerome Gotangco a Pinoy (Filipino) Blogger successfully visited the site where most of the scene of the Dae Jang Geum or Jewel in the Palace were done.

The next day (Saturday), me and Erich decided to roam around Seoul and Channy Yun and Jungshik Shin of Mozilla became our tour guides. We were able to see the Gyeongbokgung, the Bosoen temple, the traditional Korean village where "Jewel in the Palace" (a very popular historical drama from Korea) was shot entirely, had some delicious Bibimbap at old Seoul, ate street food, went to the newly built Korean National Museum where we used PDAs that had RFID to explain what was in the galleries. It was a great experience to roam around with a Seoul native. We had a long day and we decided to take the Seoul subway back to the hotel which only costs 800 won or around 8 US cents. You can roam around Seoul for only 800 won on a subway and around 1,200 on a bus.

Jang-geum (played by Lee Young-ae) is the daughter of Seo Cheon-su (played by Park Chan-hwan), a former judicial officer-turned butcher (the lowest social class) who lives in hiding after being expelled from the royal palace, and Madame Park (played by Kim Hye-seon), a former court lady working in the royal kitchen who narrowly escaped death following a murderous conspiracy planned by Court Lady Choi. As a young child, Jang-geum loses both parents and enters the royal palace in the kitchen. In the royal kitchen, she spends a harsh childhood in continuous competition with Choi Geum-yeong (played by Hong Li-na). Under the protection and tutelage of Court Lady Han, Jang-geum makes every effort to become the best cook in the palace. Her endeavors enable her to become a recognized cook; but Lady Choi and her faction, jealous of the success of Lady Han and Jang-geum, plot a conspiracy, which leads to the death of Lady Han and Jang-geum’s expulsion from the royal palace. Jang-geum is relegated to the position of maidservant for the local government office on Jeju-do Island. While in exile, Jang-geum learns medicine.
