Before Jewel in the Palace dominated the boob tube, most Filipinos summed up Korean cuisine in one word: Kimchi. But now that the popular Korean drama has taken the country by storm, many a Pinoy housewife probably has an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of an imperial kitchen.

From ingredients to preparation to presentation, Jewel introduced us to the meticulous world of Korean imperial cuisine, when food preparation was an elaborate ceremony that reflected not only the nutritional benefits of the various ingredients but also the different flavors of Korean dishes.
