Thai Dramas no match to the Jewel

Home - About Me

A writer of a Thai Day news online declared that the Jewel in the Palace or Dae Jang Geum became much popular to the Thais:
No series in recent memory has been as popular as the South Korean drama Dae Jang Guem or Jewel in the Palace which just ended on Channel 3. A lot of people knew without question where they would be on Saturday and Sunday nights – in front of a TV watching Dae Jang Guem. The series, about the first female doctor in a Korean palace in ancient times, has been the talk of the town, and although the series recently ended, its impact is relevant to some industries and has even triggered criticism of Thai dramas.

And its books became bestsellers too:
The popularity of the series doesn’t stop there though. Dae Jang Guem comes in four pocket books and had sold nearly 400,000 copies, according to Seksan Sukwattano, manager of Siam Inter Multimedia. It has been the top two best sellers at several leading bookstores such as B2S, SE-ED and Nai In since the books were launched three months ago. Seksan believes that there won’t be enough books to meet demand during the book fair later this month.

‘Jewel in the Palace’ is really the story of Janggeum, who never gives up on her dreams. [It is about] rising after each fall. I hope that viewers who undergo difficult situations never lose hope, either.

About the Jewel in the Palace by Tinga

Home - About Me

Joel Tinga said:

There is a constant here that we Filipinos look for. We identify with the underdog. The poor kid who eventually makes it to the big time is the dream that drives so many of us. We like stories of redemption. Oh, to be able to rise again after one has fallen. And yes, we all like a happy ending.

One thing to remember though is that there will be no happy ending if we don’t do something about it. If Filipinos came to support their country the same way they came out to see the supporting actors of Jewel in the Palace, then maybe we can start getting our act together.

Come to think of it, maybe this article is about the situation in Malacañang. (LINK)

Jewel In The Palace Finding

Home - About Me

Here's a quote from a news paper about the Jewel in the Palace:

In Jewel in the Palace, while Jang Geum has succeeded in returning to the palace as a nurse this time, a lot of people continue to doubt her abilities since she is still new to the job.

This is why people found it hard to believe her when she said that there is still an infant in the queen's womb, especially since the more superior and renowned nurse in the palace, Yeul-Yee (Lee Se Eun), thinks otherwise. The two of them observed the queen together to determine who has better skills in healing people.

It did not take long before a dead infant came out of the queen's womb, which proved that Jang Geum was right; the queen did in fact carry twins in her womb. Yeul-Yee apologized to the palace officials, but she angrily accused Jang Geum of humiliating her. On the other hand, the queen would reproach the king for replacing the doctor who happens to be her relative.

This would take the king by surprise, for he doesn't understand what made the queen so angry. What would Jang Geum's fate in the palace be now that she has returned as a nurse?

Would this be her much-awaited chance to have her revenge against the persons responsible for getting her banished from the palace and killing her mother and her mentor Lady Han (Yang Mi-Kyeong)?

Or will her enemies succeed in driving her out of the palace again or taking her life this time?
